What Rytr says it does

Rytr's homepage lists 40 use cases, for emails, blog sections, ads, product copy, SEO, social posts and more. It says you can continue, expand, shorten, reword or improve text. You can write in your own voice or pick one of 22 tones. Rytr also now sells Engage, which keeps track of people and follow-ups across Gmail, Outlook, Slack, your calendar and meeting notes.

Rytr's extension page says you install it from the Chrome Web Store. Rytr says it brings Create, its writing tool, to Gmail, Slack, Notion and any editor.

Free also lists a daily briefing, 40+ writing use cases and 30+ languages. Each paid plan includes everything in the plan below it. Pro adds morning and evening briefings and custom use cases. The pricing page does not list annual totals.

The language counts differ. The pricing page says 30+ languages. The homepage and Create page say 38 languages. Read checkout if the language count matters.

The free plan

The free plan costs nothing, and Rytr labels it “Free forever”. The writing limit on that plan is 10,000 characters a month. It also lists one connected source, 25 active relationships, 25 Engage actions a month and 3 person research runs. For a short test of the use cases and tones, that is the plan Rytr puts first. It is a small allowance if you draft full articles.

Lite, Personal and Pro

Lite, at $9 a month, removes the 10,000-character limit. Rytr lists it as everything in Free plus unlimited characters.

Personal, at $19 a month, adds 2 connected sources, 250 active relationships, 250 Engage actions a month and 10 person research runs a month. Rytr pitches it “for everyday communication”. Pro, at $49 a month, adds all connected sources, 1,000 active relationships, 2,000 Engage actions a month and 50 person research runs a month. Rytr pitches Pro “for communication power users”.

Billing, ownership and cancelling

On yearly billing, the pricing page shows Lite at $7.50, Personal at $15 and Pro at $39 a month, billed annually. The pricing FAQ says you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of your billing period. Check the yearly total at checkout before you switch.

Rytr's terms of use say paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, and renew unless you cancel. The terms say fees already paid are not refunded, though Rytr may look at some requests case by case. Payment is by credit or debit card. The pricing FAQ says you can change plans at any time.

What to weigh

Lite already lists unlimited characters. Personal and Pro add connected sources and Engage limits on top of Lite. If you only want to write, compare Free with Lite first. Mike has not graded the writing. For video tools, see Fliki and Pictory. For funnels and email, see systeme.io.

Compare the allowance with your own drafts

The free plan's 10,000 characters are enough to see the use cases. Check the Engage rows before you pay for Personal or Pro.
