ElevenLabs Music v2.5: What’s New & Is It Worth Trying?
ElevenLabs released Music v2.5 on 11 September 2026. Here is what has changed, what you can do for free and who I think should consider trying it.
What is ElevenLabs Music v2.5?
Music v2.5 is the latest version of ElevenLabs' AI music model. You describe the music you want in natural language and ElevenMusic generates a track. ElevenLabs says v2.5 is now the default model for prompted and reference generation in ElevenMusic, while Music v2 remains available.
The big focus of v2.5 is sound quality. ElevenLabs says tracks have more layers and movement, more natural-sounding instruments and better consistency across a full song. In its own blind comparison covering 47,885 pairs generated from the same prompts, ElevenLabs says v2.5 was preferred the majority of the time. That is company testing rather than my own independent test, so I would treat it as a useful signal rather than proof that every generation will be better.
What can you create?
ElevenMusic can generate full songs with vocals, instrumental tracks, music for videos and games, and genre-specific tracks. You can control things such as genre, mood, instrumentation and structure. ElevenLabs also supports section-by-section editing and multilingual music.
What's new in Music v2.5?
More natural instruments and richer tracks
ElevenLabs says v2.5 produces more layered and complex songs with more natural-sounding instrumentation. It reports the largest improvement in vocal-led and acoustic-heavy styles including R&B, soul, hip hop, rock, metal, orchestral and cinematic music.
Lossless downloads on every plan
A particularly useful change is lossless downloading across every plan, including Free. ElevenLabs says Free users receive five lossless downloads per day, while Pro users receive 400 per month.
You keep the rights attached to tracks you create
ElevenLabs says every track you create in ElevenMusic is yours. For tracks created on Free, commercial use is allowed with ElevenMusic credit under the current Music v2.5 release terms. The permissions attached when a track is created remain with that track if you later cancel or downgrade. There is an important exception: downloads are blocked for tracks built using another artist's song as a reference.
Available beyond the music website
Music v2.5 is also available in ElevenCreative and through the ElevenLabs API. That makes it relevant not just to people creating individual tracks, but also creators and developers who want music inside wider content or software workflows.
How much does Eleven Music cost?
ElevenLabs currently offers a Free plan at $0 with 10,000 monthly credits. Its pricing page says Eleven Music uses approximately 900 credits per minute, with credits shared across ElevenLabs products. Starter is currently $6 per month with 30,000 credits, Creator $22 per month with 121,000 credits (currently $11 for the first month), and Pro $99 with 600,000 credits. Prices exclude applicable taxes.
Because the credit pool is shared, using credits for Music leaves fewer for products such as Text to Speech. ElevenLabs also says generation cost depends on track length and the number of variants, and the cost is shown before you generate.

Who is Music v2.5 useful for?
I think the strongest use cases are creators who need original background music, podcasters, people making social content, small businesses creating ads, game developers and anyone who wants to experiment with complete AI-generated songs without starting in traditional music-production software.
It is less compelling if you already have a music workflow you are happy with or if you only need occasional stock background tracks. AI music also has licensing and platform considerations, so check the current ElevenLabs Music Terms and the rules of wherever you plan to publish before relying on a generated track commercially.
Is ElevenLabs Music v2.5 worth trying?
Yes, I think it is worth trying rather than immediately paying for. The Free plan now makes the test relatively low-friction: you can generate music and ElevenLabs says Free includes five lossless downloads per day. That is enough to find out whether the sound and workflow suit what you want to make.
I would only move to a paid plan when you know you need more credits or paid-plan features. If you're new to ElevenLabs generally, my ElevenLabs review explains the wider platform, and my Text to Speech beginner's guide covers its best-known voice tool.
